What Is Alpha Picks?

Alpha Picks is a stock recommendation tool directed by Seeking Alpha’s quantitative analysis team. The service delivers two new stock picks each month, selected using a rigorous, data-driven methodology that evaluates thousands of data points across value, growth, profitability, EPS revisions, and price momentum.

The service is designed for buy-and-hold investors focused on long-term capital appreciation. It does not require frequent trading and covers multiple sectors, as the best opportunities rotate across sectors over time.

How Alpha Picks Selects Stocks

Quantitative Rating Threshold
Each pick must carry a Strong Buy quant rating for at least 75 consecutive days before selection. This removes short-term noise and ensures only sustained, high-conviction ideas enter the portfolio.

Five-Factor Scoring Model
Stocks are evaluated across five factors: value, growth, profitability, EPS revisions, and price momentum. Each factor is graded and weighted to maximise predictive value. The top-ranked stocks receive a Strong Buy designation.

Stock Eligibility Criteria
Each selection must be a US common stock with a minimum 3-month average market capitalisation above $500 million, a share price above $10, and must not have been recommended in the prior 12 months. REITs and ADRs are excluded.

Portfolio Frequency
Two picks are added each month. The first is added on the opening trading day of the month, and the second on the 15th or the nearest trading day thereafter.

When Alpha Picks Sells

  • A stock’s rating falls to Sell or Strong Sell
  • A stock remains at Hold for 180 or more consecutive days
  • The company announces a merger or acquisition event where it is the target
  • A position reaches 15% of the total portfolio, at which point it is reduced to 10%

When a stock doubles from its purchase price it is classified as a winner, and a different rule applies. Winners are only fully exited if the rating falls to Sell or Strong Sell, or if a qualifying M&A event occurs.

Alpha Picks Performance

Since launch on July 1, 2022, Alpha Picks has returned 316.61%, compared to 79.99% for the S&P 500 over the same period. Performance is calculated using opening prices on pick dates and closing prices on sell dates.

Dividends are reinvested. S&P 500 performance is tracked via an equivalent investment in SPY. An independent third party, S&P Global, calculates returns using time-weighted methodology consistent with Global Investment Performance Standards.
